1978
1978 – Coming from Argentina, here is one of the darkest political horror pieces we have seen in a while. Set during the World Cup final, when the country was under military dictatorship, the film follows a group of people who have been taken away by the government to be tortured in an inhumane interrogation. However, things take a turn when some of the kidnapped people are revealed to be part of a dark cult guided by an unknown force, thus bringing hell to the government agents. With a terrific production design and enough gore to please its audience, the film comes as a unique take on the horrors caused by the Videla dictatorship and the desire of the Argentinian people to make them pay. While the scars might never fully heal, 1978 offers a cathartic experience showing terrible villains getting murdered in the most brutal way. The result is a film that will scare its audience and stay with them for a long time, not only for the hellish creatures portrayed here, but also because of the true horrors behind it.
